Twitter Is Crap For Marketing

Perhaps that title is a little bit of an overstatement, but at least in the make money online niche it’s true.

I received a direct message today asking me to joining some sort of stay-at-home-wealth-formula programme. I politely declined, and informed the user that it really isn’t the best use of his time to be spamming his link on Twitter.

Twitter doesn’t have that big a userbase, and the people that are in it are like me and you. They are internet marketers, SEOs, web designers and graphic designers. I would say that most Twitter users are web-savvy.

It seems a waste of time to be marketing online riches to these types of people, when there’s a whole load of people in other areas online that are ripe for the picking.

And speaking of Twitter, I’ve been struggling to get my head around it. I see all these high profile bloggers saying how amazing it is, and how they posted one message for help and got a gazillion replies. But I never get anything like that.

I really need to build up my followers, but that takes so much effort that could be put to better use elsewhere.

I agree; when I was using Twitter to promote a CJ merchant, I got lots of clicks (1600) but hardly any conversions. People were clicking, but they weren’t opening up their wallets.

However, find the right niche, and Twitter has potential.

    Hi there,

I looked over your blog and it looks really good. Do you ever do link exchanges on your blog roll? If you do, I’d like to exchange links with you.

Let me know if you’re interested.

    Thanks..

@Eric: I’m pretty sure there is a niche that would work, if it was promoted “truly”, as opposed to just spammed. There’s also the argument that if you throw enough mud at a wall, eventually some will stick. I guess if people mad thousands of twitter accounts and kept themselves under the radar, there could a little bit of coinage, but not enough to warrant all that effort.

@Ben: I only link to sites that are genuinely trying to help others with internet marketing. I had a look at your marketing site, but it just doesn’t seem to be very helpful and looks a bit like a splog. I’ve nothing against splogs, but I wouldn’t link to one.

Hey man, I have to agree, and disagree. I agree that users are websavy, but if you have a site with content that will help them make cash, and not some lame super affiliate cover up to get them to sign up and reap the benifits, then they may actually sign up for your network. Post interesting, appealing, and userful information in Internet Marketing , and you could be rewarded in a sign up. My site is just there to help, and not trying to get any sign ups, check it out if you got time…diggalive.com. I like your blog, bookmarked.

@digga: yea, it’s just the way these retards are doing it. I’d like to see someone do it properly for a change.
