Internet Marketing Coaching Idea Was Stupid

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

I’ve had a page up for a few weeks now advertising my own internet marketing coaching programme. I just want to say it was a stupid idea, not because it won’t produce results for me, but because it goes against everything I believe in.

If I had advertised the thing, which I didn’t bother doing, say I’d gone over to Digital Point I’m sure I would have got a few sign ups. And while I really would have made sure that complete newbies to internet marketing got a proper start in the industry, the price tag I put on it wasn’t justifiable.

I’m not saying I have a problem with people making money by helping other people make money, that’s not the issue. It’s that I could quite easily just point newbies in the right direction for free through a really good blog post. There’s a crapload of good info out there and all I’d need to do is point them to the right places to find the info.

It’s simple for most of us, but some people really struggle to find the good info and end up getting scammed by ebook sellers. Perhaps I meant well, but I feel like I’ve just become a dirty scammer myself. I have no issues selling things and with paid community sites either, but telling people stuff that is freely available on the net does put me in the same league as all those dirty gurus.

I am not guru, I’m an internet marketer.

Twitter ‘tards: Wish People Would Get a Grip

Monday, November 10th, 2008

I’m still undecided with this whole twitter business. Loads of people love it, I kinda like it but then it’s supposed to be a social networking tool. When the hell do I ever actual network on it?

Never, that’s when. And it’s not for want of trying. It seems that people just don’t want to network with me. Perhaps it’s the smell, but I didn’t think the interwebs was so advanced as to send it over the fibre optic cables.

This post is titled twitter ‘tards because of the amount of people I see doing twitter wrong. I’ll say it again: it’s a networking tool. So why then do I see people and all their tweets are…

Latest blog post: How I Suck Ass at Twitter http://tinyurl.com/tyyyuuio

Why would a prospective follower even bother, might as well just sign up to your RSS feed if you’ve got good enough content for it.

Another thing I see it this…

Twitter Idiocy

Retardation

It looks wrong somehow, why? Oh yea, you’re just thousands of people so that you can get a few followers yourself.

There’s nothing wrong with this! It’s just pure retardation to not at least cover your tracks because some people might think it’s “spam”. Follow the thousands of people you want, but then unfollow the ones that don’t follow you back.

And thus ends my twitter moaning. Good day.

Content, content, content…

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Damn, I never knew content generation could be so fun. I’ve been against it for months due to a stint at attempting to do article marketing in a niche that I was so not interested in.

This is probably the best advice I could give to myself or anyone else right now - just write content! Unless you are retarded and can’t actually write, there’s been quite an influx of idiots migrating from Digital Point to Wicked Fire recently that fit that description. My advice for these guys is to quit while you’re ahead, or at least go back to school.

Why write content?

If you know what to do with the content, then content is money. Or content is backlinks. Content is whatever you make it really. I’ve concentrated a lot more on the marketing side of things and to my shame I cannot show you one site that has half decent content on it.

Another reason for you is this: content is what the internet is made for. Ultimately you will have to come to terms with it at some point, Google are cracking down more and more on crap/thin content sites and before you know it there might not be a place for half-baked mini-sites. I am not an expert and don’t pretend to be, I’m just looking to the future and that’s what I see coming.

Tools of the trade

Content generation needs very few tools. As I said above, you need a brain and ideally the ability to type at a half-decent speed. I recommend learning to touch type, it works wonders, it really does.

I also recommend Q10 as an awesome text editor, and props to Emp from Blind Ape SEO for mentioning it, a good find. It turns your screen into a text input environment, full screen - all you can do is type! It blacks out everything else on the screen and leaves with a couple of details such as the time and your word count.

Music is also a much debatable tool to help with content generation, some people think that it hinders and distracts you whereas others believe it can be very motivational. I’m finding that it really depends what you listen to. At the moment I’m listening to an awesome UK (Welsh I think) band called Skindred.

They are the shiznitch, seriously. I don’t know how to describe them, I guess it’s metal/rap/Jamaican. Technically Jamaican isn’t a musical genre but what else can I call it, it’s not reggae I know that. It’s original, hardcore Jamaican metal - that might be the best bet. All I know is that by listening to them, my fingers are dancing away on this keyboard while my head bops like there’s no tomorrow.

WebWriMo

The WebWriMo is a challenge based on the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The idea is to write 50,000 words in a month long period. I’m tempted to put my name down for it as I’ve already done a few words in the last two days alone and if I keep this pace up I’ll make good for the end of the month.

Just done a quick count up what I’ve gotten done so far in the last few days since I started getting into it: 4,457

Accoring to the WebWriMo I’d have to do another 45,000 in 20 days, so that’s 2,250 a day til then. A bit of a stretch but then that’s the idea.

Time Is Money: Concentrate On the Most Profitable Projects

Monday, November 10th, 2008

We all know that time is money, but how often do we put this into practice?

Recently, I’ve found that I haven’t been giving my time the respect it deserves. The problem with internet marketing is that there are an infinite number of projects and ideas you could work on. Newbies in the industry often find themselves running backwards and forwards from one plan/guru/idea to another, not really knowing where they are going.

I’m not suggesting to have only one project at a time. I love always having another project to work on if I get stuck on something and need to take a break, but I always try to focus the majority of my time on the things that are most likely to be successfull.

This doesn’t just apply to internet marketing. Today I was thinking about selling my old and broken laptop on eBay. But then I realised there’s some info on the hard drive I’d like to irradicate first before I sell it, and I have no idea how to get to the hard drive to wipe it as the laptop is broken.

Now, the maximum price I reckon I can get for the laptop sold as spare/repairs is £40. I know from previous experience of trying to physically fix technical things that it’ll take me a long time to work out how to wipe the data of the hard drive. A few hours work at least I should think, and I’m not wasting my time doing that for a one off £40 when my internet marketing efforts can produce the same amount of money week after week without me even doing any more work.

My advice to you is: focus most of your attention on the projects that you envisage the most success with. This is hard for newbies who don’t really know how likely things will be successful, so the best thing for them is to stick to one or two ideas that a more experienced marketer have verified as being viable.

Internet Marketing Blitz - 30 Day Ass Haul

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

I started a 30 day ass haul the other day. The idea is that I do as much internet marketing in a 30 day period as possible.

I’ve been spending way too much time on WickedFire lately, and not enough time working. I’ve got so many ideas I want to try out, some boring, some creative, some just plain wierd.

I was reluctant to do this at first as I think I should be working hard at my business all the time, not just for a 30 day period. But I’ve found that by giving myself a time limit I’m less likely to slack off and sleep in/watch tv/go out.

Give it a try, you might find it works for you.

No more income reports

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

I’ve decided to not bother with income reports anymore. After finally starting to get a little bit of success online I realised that I don’t want every other person on the interwebs knowing how much money I earn.

I really don’t know what to do with this blog, I don’t think anyone really wants to read the odd update about what projects I’m working on etc. Perhaps I’ll just leave it for putting down the tips and tricks I learn while I go about my daily business - who knows.
